BACCARAT’S FASCINATING HISTORY

The word baccarat means zero in Italy. In French and English too, baccarat implies the same meaning. Just like most other gambling games, we so not know for sure where the game of baccarat originated. A man by the name of Felix Falguierein is known for having made a number of games based on luck in the middle age. According to him, the history of baccarat is traced back to a legend of Etruscans where nine gods were pursuing a beautiful woman. This beauty decided to throw a dice with nine sides in order to decide if she should journey as a priestess, a traveler or an outcast. If the dice represented eight or more, she would be a priestess, if the dice showed seven or less, she would be an outcast and if the dice displayed less than six, she would travel the seas.

However this legend is not very convincing and thus a more believable history of baccarat has been traced to the 1500s in France. Before the game of baccarat spread throughout the world, it was played among the French nobility only. This source helped to sustain in reputation for years to come. Historians believe that baccarat originated as a game of chance and for centuries thereafter, baccarat succeeded to travel to many countries living up to becoming one of the most popular casino games today! While it traveled from one place to another, the game picked up strategies, all of which are used in game playing baccarat as we do today!

The popularity of baccarat is large and satisfying. From France, it moved to England and reached South America within a very short period. The exciting method of playing baccarat is probably the reason as to why it spread so rapidly and successfully over such large distances. In modern times, it was Tommy Renzoni who introduced the game in the United States. What baccarat as we know it today is actually a fusion of Chemin de Fer of France and later baccarat in America. This version of the game was played in Dunes Casino in Las Vegas for the first time. It is known to be an elegant and sober game and is mostly popular with celebrities, the royalty and aristocrats.

The history of baccarat however does not end there. It became more popular when a mini version of it was introduced so people with average funds could afford to play this game as well. The rules for both are same except that mini baccarat allows lower table restrictions. This brought more people to playing the game and contributing to its increasing popularity.
